Hair fall / Baldness
Hair fall can affect both men and women. While genes (heredity) play a vital role, there are usually other reasons as well, including, stress, infection or fungal disease (e.g. dandruff, tinea capitis), pregnancy, PCOS, hormonal imbalances, an under-active thyroid gland, autoimmune disease (e.g. alopecia areata, etc), nutritional deficiencies (e.g. iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, etc) insufficient blood circulation in the scalp, use of styling tools and hair cosmetics, certain medicines, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, alcohol consumption, smoking, excess sun exposure. Hair loss is a mammoth problem that many people are suffering from.
Baldness is the partial or complete lack of hair growth. Most common is androgenic alopecia, alopecia androgenetica, or alopecia seborrheica. It affects both males as well as females under the influence of sex hormones. Its degree and pattern of baldness varies from person to person.
